Report Generator

Report Generator fills your PowerPoint template with live data from a DataTile dashboard. You design the slides once. Every download then gives a new .pptx file with the latest numbers, in your own design.

How it works

  1. Build a PowerPoint template: your slides, with charts, tables and text boxes as placeholders.

  2. Build a custom dashboard with the charts, tables and controls the report needs.

  3. Link them: write each element's ID as ${element ID} into the matching placeholder.

  4. Upload the template and download the report.

Optional:

What you need

Role

  • Report Creator to create reports

  • Dashboard creator to build the dashboard

Template

A .pptx file, up to 10 MB

Script (optional)

A .yml file

Result

A .pptx file

Anyone who can view the dashboard can download a report.

Quick start: your first report

Try it with one chart before you build a full template.

  1. On the dashboard, create a bar chart. Its ID is shown under it, for example Chart_1. Click the ID to copy it.

  2. In PowerPoint, insert a bar chart (Insert → Chart → Bar).

  3. Right-click the chart → View Alt Text → type ${Chart_1}.

  4. Save the file as .pptx.

  5. On the dashboard, switch to EDIT mode → left menu → Reports → Add new report. Enter a title, add the .pptx file, check the tab, click Create.

  6. Click the download icon in the top toolbar → under Reports, click your report.

The downloaded file shows your PowerPoint chart filled with the dashboard data.
