Codebook

DataTile allows you to upload a codebook as a structured Excel file (.dtcb.xlsx) that defines the complete variable structure and specifies how your data should be organized and interpreted in DataTile.

This article provides detailed instructions on how to correctly declare and describe variables in a codebook. The codebook is uploaded as a separate file together with the database and serves as a complete data map, defining the structure and properties of the variables in DataTile.

Well-structured datasets usually follow consistent variable naming conventions. In such cases, these patterns can be used in a codebook to avoid overloading the dictionary and repeating the same declarations. A single-line pattern can declare a group of cognate variables, typically representing a multi-response, matrix question, or a block of standard questions.

A quantitative multi-response set (quantitative MR-set) allows you to group multiple variables representing the same quantitative measure across different items, brands, or categories. Quantitative MR-sets can also be declared directly in a structured DataTile codebook. Quantitative MR-sets are also included in codebook exports, allowing you to preserve and reuse their configuration.
