Layout

The control editor interface includes several work zones that are vertically arranged to facilitate adding a large number of options.

  • The Variable tree panel contains all the variables from a codebook to be added to the control.

  • The Groups panel (tabs) is minimized when the control includes one group. Expand it to add multiple groups.

  • The categories panel is a zone for control options. Here you can add totals, weights, and build logical expressions.

  • The control design area is intended for previewing. It can be expanded by clicking the button in the left corner.

  • All the control settings are displayed in the right panel.

Totals

To add a ‘Total’ option to the control, click the special button in the categories panel. By default, the total option appears at the top but can be repositioned by dragging it. You can also use the popup arrows to move it to the top or bottom of the options list.

Weights

The weights are applied independently to each group in the control. For example, with two groups, you can switch between weighted and unweighted calculations by assigning the control to a chart as ‘Put on’.

When weighting variables are applied, a clear indication is displayed next to the group label.

Note that all operations involving weights and the appearance of the corresponding icons are only possible if variables are assigned as weights in the database settings.

Logical expressions

Another key feature is the ability to create logical expressions using multiple categories.

  1. Select categories from the variable tree and drag them onto an empty space to quickly compose a logical expression using the popup menu. Supported operations in this case include OR-join, AND-join, DIFF, and DIV.

  2. You can use the Logical Expression Builder to apply the necessary logical operations for more complex expressions that cannot be created in one step. When hovered over, the LEB icon appears next to any category or group label.

There is a clear indication in case any logical operations were made.
