Value drop zone in the crosstab area

The VALUE area allows you to perform MEAN or VOL values of a numeric variable in a crosstab even if it is not represented in rows or columns.

Here is an example of calculating using the numeric category 'Age' as a VALUE.

In regular situations, the mean metric in a crosstab shows the mean value of the digital equivalents for the ‘Income' variable. However, after adding the numeric variable ‘Age’ to the VALUE field, the mean metric shows the average age for each cell.

How to use the VALUE drop zone:

  • Drag&drop numeric variable from a codebook to the Value area;

  • Switch on the MEAN or VOL metrics - as required;

  • Click CALCULATE.

Value source selector

The VALUE area also contains a selector that determines whether data for metrics calculation should be taken from rows or columns.
It is relevant when the VALUE field itself is empty and the numeric variable is in a crosstab. If the VALUE field already contains a variable, the data in the table will be the same regardless of what is selected in the selector.

The VALUE drop zone is also used when applying the Feature Count metric. It’s an exceptional case of using non-numerical variables in this area.
