Navigating Meta-Editor and organizing data

First steps in Meta-Editor

Updated over a week ago

The purpose of organizing your data is to make it easy to navigate and find questions (categories) and answers (variables). This can be done by sorting into folders, grouping together variables or combining them to form new variables. This is all done within the Meta-Editor.

In the Meta-Editor you can:

  1. Trim and shorten titles and subtitles.

  2. Create folders and subfolders to aid navigation

  3. Re-code answer options, for example, combine answers to create a Top2 or Bottom2 for scaled questions.

  4. Deal with multiple-response questions: you can create a codebook list based on a number of the answers to different questions without losing any information.

Note! None of these actions will alter the original raw file, but enhance it and make it more user-friendly.
